When choosing a company for your needs:

  • First, make a checklist of the coverage you need. Think about the activities you plan to do. Also, decide how much coverage you will require in terms of the sum insured.
  • Next research the list of companies you have selected which offer the coverage you desire. Read their reviews, acknowledge awards received, and see how many travellers have chosen them as a provider.
  • Finally, choose a company that ticks all of your desired boxes at the most affordable rate. Make sure to read the Product Disclosure Statement or PDS. This will help you get the best deal. Also, consider any perks, promotions, or extras a company offers to win your business.

Most Common Questions

I am overseas right now – can I buy, change or upgrade a policy?

You need to be in Australia at the time of purchasing your insurance. If you are overseas, we are unable to offer you new or different insurance. You may be eligible to extend the dates of your existing cover, so shoot us an email and find out.

How does cancellation cover work?

Cancellation cover starts on the date of purchase of Silver and Gold. Cancellation is covered if the insured cannot travel due to medical reasons, the death of a relative, an unknown natural disaster (if you have included this option in your policy), serious damage to a home in Australia and so on. In any such event, the insured can cancel and claim for the non-recoverable pre-booked expenses lost on the trip.

How to find the best travel insurance?

Finding the right travel insurance can be a bit of a journey, but it’s worth it! Start by looking at ratings and reviews to see which policies match your needs. Awards and recommendations from trusted consumer groups can also guide you. For more tips on choosing the best travel policy, read here to know more.

Do you cover the cost of vaccinations?

Depending on your specific needs, we can provide pre-trip advice such as what vaccinations are required and the local medical conditions at your destination (Page 7 of our Product Disclosure Statement or PDS).

For prescribed medications and maintenance and in case they get lost during a trip, this can be covered for as long as the medical condition related to these medications are declared.

As for preventive vaccination, we primarily advise to visit your GP and ask for options. Also, look out for the health section in Smarttravelers.gov.au to check out advice and medical precautions needs to be looked at depending on the country you chose to travel in.

How travel insurance for pregnancy works?

We automatically cover you for unlimited medical emergencies, hospital and surgical for the complications of pregnancy up to the 30 weeks (for one baby only). However, be advised that this policy is limited to the complications of pregnancy only. For a comprehensive list of what is and is not covered please refer to the Product Disclosure Statement.

I’m taking out the top cover, am I covered for anything that can go wrong on my trip?

Our premiums would be astronomical if we could do that! There are limits and exclusions to all travel insurance policies, so we strongly advise you to read our product disclosure statement (or search [ctrl+F] for key words to check limits and exclusions) to see if our product is right for you.

**Children (including fostered, or adopted children) travelling with either their parents or grandparents will be provided with travel insurance cover for no additional cost (any pre-existing medical conditions may incur an additional charge).
