Cruise Travel Insurance Benefits:

  • Trip Cancelation Before Departure: If it is necessary and unavoidable to cancel your cruise ship, we will pay certain unrecoverable travel costs and expenses. This is available in our Cruise Silver and Gold levels of cover, and you should consider purchasing cover as soon as you book your cruise, in case of cancellation.
  • Missed Departure: Should you miss the scheduled departure of your pre-booked ship from Australia due to certain events, we will cover you for certain reasonable and necessary additional travelling expenses to continue with your original itinerary.
  • Medical Expenses: We offer unlimited cover for necessary and reasonable medical expenses on board and onshore (outside of Australia) such as medical, surgical, hospital treatment and ambulance.
  • Missed Port Cover: If your cruise ship never docks at a port during a trip due to adverse weather restrictions or mechanical breakdown, we will pay for each scheduled missed port. This is available in the Silver and Gold policies.
  • Personal Belongings & Baggage: We provide coverage if your personal belongings are lost, stolen or damaged during your cruise, or up to 72 hours prior to your cruise departure in Australia. Sublimits apply.
  • Reimbursements for Shore Excursions: If it is necessary and unavoidable for your cruise to be cancelled or cut short, you may be covered for certain costs, subject to the level of cover selected.
  • Cabin Confinement: If you are confined to your cabin due to medical reasons as advised by a ship medical officer, Insure&Go will pay $75 for every 24 hours a passenger is confined up to the defined amount outlined in the table of benefits in our Silver and Gold cruise policies.
  • Delays: We will reimburse the cost of your necessary additional meals and accommodation expenses if during a trip your departure by sea vessel is delayed for more than 12 hours. This cover is available in our Silver and Gold policy and you will be reimbursed for each complete 12-hour period you are delayed. Limits and sublimits may apply.
  • Emergency Medical Transportation: We provide certain cover (outlined in the policy wording) for passengers if they require urgent transportation to a medical facility or need to return home for emergency treatment.

Most Common Questions

If I get a cruise policy, will I be covered for anything else other than my time on the cruise?

Our Cruise Policies will provide you coverage when you’re travelling on land, in the air and cruising the ocean.

When purchasing a cruise policy^, simply select ‘cruise’ as your trip type and select your destination bracket.  Please note, for the South Pacific and Asia Cruise, you have two destination options to select from:

  • For cruises that include any of the listed Pacific destinations and docks at any Australian port after departure – select Domestic/South Pacific.

  • For cruises that include any of the listed Asia destinations and dock at any Australian port after departure – select Domestic/Asia.

If I am taking a domestic cruise, will I be covered for medical expenses?

If you are on a domestic cruise, InsureandGo will provide Cruise travel insurance policyholders coverage for Medical and Evacuation expenses. However, this benefit does not apply to any medical treatment needed on-land in Australia or whilst the cruise ship is tied up in an Australian port.

Do I have to purchase a cruise policy if I´m cruising on my own boat?

If you are sailing then you do not require our cruise policy^. Instead, you may select the international single trip or our Annual Multi-Trip policy^, which will only cover you for necessary and reasonable medical expenses whilst on your own personal boat. However, InsureandGo does not provide cover if you are racing or if you sail outside territorial waters.

What is the difference between missed port and missed cruise departure?

Missed Port: If your cruise does not port at certain docks during your trip due to adverse weather restrictions or mechanical break-down, Silver and Gold Cruise policy^ customers will be reimbursed up to the amount shown in the table of benefits in the PDS.

Missed Cruise Departure: If you missed the scheduled departure of your pre-booked cruise from Australia due to reasons detailed on page 25 of the Cruise travel insurance PDS, Silver and Gold Cruise travel insurance policyholders will be paid up to the amount shown in the Table of benefits. You will be reimbursed for reasonable and necessary additional accommodation and travelling expenses incurred after you leave your home address in Australia, that are over and above what you had originally budgeted to pay and are needed to continue with your original itinerary.

What does InsureandGo consider as a commercial cruise ship?

We consider a commercial cruise any sea, ocean or river travel conducted by a commercially operated cruise ship, boat or other sea vessel, with a scheduled journey time longer than 2 hours.

What happens if my baggage and personal belongings gets stolen or is lost before boarding the cruise?

If you are an InsureandGo Cruise policyholder and you have lost your baggage, or it gets stolen before boarding your cruise, we will pay for items that accompanied you for your individual and personal use during your trip whilst in Australia prior to boarding your cruise.

For cruises that leave a port in Australia, this cover commences after you leave your home address and a maximum of 72 hours prior to your Cruise departing your first Australian port, as stated on your itinerary.

What do I do if I get sick on board?

If you are an InsureandGo Cruise policyholder, we will pay you for the necessary and reasonable medical costs incurred as a result of you becoming ill or injured whilst on board. We will also cover Evacuation expenses if the medical practitioner has stated in writing that you are unfit to continue your trip due to medical illness or injury.

 If you are a Silver or Gold Cruise policyholder, we will reimburse you $75 for each 24-hour period that you are confined by the ship's medical officer to your cabin for medical reasons during the period of your trip.

Am I covered for any onshore activities or excursions?

We automatically include coverage for more than 90 sports and activities. To check whether your intended activities are covered please refer to pages 46 – 48 in our Cruise travel insurance PDS.

 If you cannot find your activity, don’t worry, if the activity meets the following criteria, it will be covered:

  1.  The activity is not part of a competition or tournament.

  2.  The activity is not on a professional basis.

  3.  Activities provided by a commercial operator and open to persons of all ages including those with height or general health warnings (e.g. Disneyland rides)

  4.  The activity is not listed under Table of excluded sports and activities, which can be found on page 50 in the Cruise travel insurance PDS.

What happens if I miss the departure of my cruise due to transportation taken to the port?

If you missed the scheduled departure of your pre-booked cruise from Australia due to:

  •  An accident involving your means of transport

  • The cancellation, delay or diversion of your scheduled transport caused by riot, strike or civil commotion, but only those expenses that You cannot claim from someone else.

  • A Natural Disaster. (This is only applicable if you have purchased the Natural Disaster upgrade option and this is shown on your Policy Schedule. This does not include those that were known at the time of purchasing this insurance.)

 Silver and Gold Cruise travel insurance policy^ customers will be paid up to the amount shown in the Table of benefits for reasonable and necessary additional travelling expenses incurred after you leave your home address in Australia, that are over and above what you had originally budgeted to pay and are needed to continue with your original itinerary.

Am I covered if I get sick on shore during an excursion?

If you are an InsureandGo Policyholder, we will pay you for the necessary and reasonable costs incurred as a result of you becoming ill, being injured or dying whilst on your trip or cruise.


InsureandGo Policy covers more than 90 sports and activities. For the details of covered activities and excursions and their requirements, please refer to pages 36 – 38 of our PDS.


If your activity is not listed below, cover is available if the activity meets the following criteria:

  • An activity able to be undertaken by persons of all ages including those activities with height or general health warnings (e.g. bush walk) and which do not require specialized equipment or a high level of fitness.

  • Activities provided by a commercial operator and open to persons of all ages including those with height or general health warnings (e.g. Disneyland rides)

  • Sports and Activities for which no cover is available are listed under the Table of excluded sports and activities on page 40.
